Texas Parole Interview Preparation and Release Plan Checklist
Useful preparation connects the requested release plan to facts that can be checked.
In short: For a Texas parole review interview, confirm the appointment, organize accurate support information and prepare a concise release plan. A granted discretionary lead-voter interview is limited to 20 minutes under the current Board policy. An interview and a paid parole packet are not prerequisites to submitting support information.

What should I say in a Texas parole interview?
Explain the actual release plan and the support you can verify. Organize the presentation around the proposed residence, income or employment, transportation and any relevant treatment arrangements. Separate a confirmed commitment from something still being explored. The goal is to make the facts easy to assess, not to recite a script that promises the right outcome.

What should I check before the appointment?
- Confirm whether the appointment is an institutional interview or a granted interview with a voting panel member.
- Check that every participant uses the same current, accurate release-plan information.
- Prepare a short outline and identify who will answer questions about each proposed support arrangement.
Confirm the appointment before preparing a speech
Ask the voting office about the date, format, allowed participants and submission instructions. Do not assume an institutional interview means that relatives also have an appointment with a panel member. Keep the confirmation with the person's TDCJ number and the contact information supplied by the office.
What should a release plan explain?
A useful plan answers practical questions: where the person proposes to live, what work or other lawful support may be available, how transportation would work and what treatment arrangements are realistically accessible. A proposed address or program is not an approved placement. Distinguish confirmed commitments from applications and hopes.
| Plan item | Useful supporting detail |
|---|---|
| Housing | Who controls the proposed residence and what remains unapproved? |
| Employment | Is there a real offer, an interview or only a possibility? |
| Transportation | Who can provide rides and when? |
| Treatment | What provider, admission conditions and costs are known? |
How should you use the interview time?
Prepare a one-page outline with the central request, the strongest verified updates and the specific support being offered. Rehearse for clarity rather than memorizing a dramatic statement. Leave room for questions. If several supporters participate, decide who can accurately address each issue instead of repeating the same story.
How do you handle incomplete information?
Say what is unknown. A pending program application should not become a statement that a bed is reserved. Label copies with dates and preserve the original records. If a sentence detail appears wrong, identify the exact discrepancy for counsel rather than making an unsupported accusation about the file.
Is professional packet preparation mandatory?
The Board says no specific packet format or attorney representation is required to submit support information. Legal advice may still help with a disputed record or a complex case, but presentation expenses do not purchase a favorable vote. Before paying anyone to represent an inmate before the Board, verify the applicable attorney licensing and registration requirements.
